Gary Scola, Vice President of Operations, provides operational leadership in the Washington, DC market. He currently manages Embrey Mill, located in Stafford County, Virginia, a diverse residential mixed-use community. He is responsible for leading a team of talented professionals in developing and executing the project's vision and long-term growth, entitlement strategy, community master planning, and design, infrastructure development, residential sales programs, and commercial development. Gary currently serves on the board of directors for the Northern Virginia Building Industry Association (NVBIA) and also participates on the legislative committee. Gary has spent most of his career in the DC Metro and Greater Boston areas. Before joining Newland, he was the Senior Planning and Development Manager for Walton Development and Management, responsible for the land planning and development of 3,269 acres of land slated for mixed-use, commercial, and residential development in the DC Metro area. Previous to that, Gary was the Director of Land Development at Lincoln Property Company and was essential to their successes in obtaining entitlements, development of property, and release of bonds. He was the lead contact in the horizontal development of over 1,800 single, duplex, and triplex-style residential units for their Public-Private Venture with the U.S. Navy. Gary was instrumental in the design development, budgeting, strategic planning, and contract negotiation of two luxury apartment communities consisting of 259 and 442 units. In addition, he began to manage the design, development, and construction of the vertical construction of single-family, mixed-use, and multifamily developments. Gary is a graduate from the University of Massachusetts/Amherst, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. He acquired his Professional Engineer certification from the State of Maine in 2006.
