LSU Announces another Record Breaking Year
On September 18th, LSU announced another back-to-back year of record breaking enrollment welcoming 39,419 students to campus for the Fall 2023 semester. Largely led by the largest Freshman class in history with just under 7,500 students, LSU is also celebrating its most academically accomplished Freshman class with a record-high GPA of 3.82 and 26.5 ACT score. Additionally, the University reported improved retention rates increasing to 84%, up 50 bps from this time last year.
Year after year, LSU has boasted record-breaking Freshman enrollment, which has put challenges on the university in terms of dorm structure and increased demand on infrastructure in the community. As it stands, all full-time, first-year students are required to live in on-campus housing for their first two semesters. At the press release on Monday, September 18th, President William F. Tate IV stated “I don’t know what will happen next year. The demand will remain high…But we will have to change our dorm structure. There’s a lot of things that have to happen, and I don’t think the trajectory right now with our faculty size is sustainable.” (LSU Reveille).
With LSU enrolling an additional 2,000 students to campus this Fall, only 65% of the LSU students are supported by on- and off-campus beds marking a 4% decline year-over-year and putting further pressure on the student housing market to support the expanding university.
