Bio
Syd Hurley is the founder of Vista Property Company (www.vistapropertyco.com) in Dallas, Texas. Mr. Hurley has been involved in the acquisition, development, re-development and financing of more than 200 shopping center properties in Texas, Colorado and Florida during his 35-year career. After practicing law for three years with a prominent Dallas law firm, Mr. Hurley joined one of the largest private shopping center companies in Texas, now known as Weitzman, where he was the head of the finance and acquisitions group. In 1997, he left and became a founding principal of a leading developer of community centers and Target anchored power centers in and around Dallas/Fort Worth and Austin. This experience afforded him the opportunity to build relationships with a broad spectrum of capital providers and anchor tenants active in the market today.
In June of 2007, Mr. Hurley founded Vista Property Company to carry on his shopping center investment and development activities. Vista is a significant buyer of large format retail properties, a major owner/developer in high-growth Hispanic communities, and a developer of credit tenant retail projects. Mr. Hurley continues to seek out opportunistic and overlooked market niches concentrating on the IH35 corridor from San Antonio to Oklahoma City. Vista has completed $250 million of acquisitions since 2019 and remains active on the acquisition front. Vista operates approximately 3.1 million square feet of shopping centers for its own account, as well as another 400,000sf for select third parties.
Mr. Hurley is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin and Southern Methodist University School of Law. He serves on the board of directors for AP Growth Properties, a shopping center investment group backed by the Marcus family of El Paso, TX; Care Center Ministries, a faith based non-profit serving inner-city residents and families in the Pleasant Grove community of Dallas; and is a former Trustee of Providence Christian School of Texas. Mr. Hurley is married and has four children.
