Bio
Steve James is Fannie Mae's Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. Reporting to the President, Mr. James leads marketing, communications, and community investment and engagement. His responsibilities include all marketing in support of the company's single-family, multifamily, capital markets, and credit loss management businesses; leading the corporation's digital marketing strategy, including oversight of all Fannie Mae's social media and web properties; internal and external communications; corporate giving; and employee engagement and volunteer efforts. Previously, Mr. James was Fannie Mae's Senior Vice President of Strategy, Insights, and Marketing for our Single-Family Mortgage Business, where he was charged with delivering superior customer experiences to lenders, servicers, and investors. Mr. James was a driving force behind Fannie Mae's successful journey toward customer-centricity, helping to transform our position amongst customers and key stakeholders. His responsibilities included strategy development, insight development, application of UX/design, marketing strategy development and execution, and leadership of single-family affordable housing initiatives. Mr. James brings a wealth of marketing, product development, and strategy experience from companies such as Toyota, Capital One, and TIAA. Mr. James was Senior Vice President – Marketing at TIAA, where he led advertising, brand strategy, and consumer marketing. Before that, he was Managing Vice President – Consumer Bank Marketing at Capital One. His team was responsible for advertising campaign work, customer management, brand conversions, and marketing strategy for the consumer bank. Earlier in his career, he held marketing and strategy roles at Toyota and Lexus. Mr. James holds a bachelor of science in marketing from Virginia Tech and an MBA with concentrations in Marketing and Finance from the Indiana University Kelley School of Business.
