Bio

Scott Burman is a seasoned real estate developer and Principal of Burman Real Estate Development (BRE), a company he founded in 2023, born from a 20+ year legacy of developing, constructing, and managing commercial, residential, and luxury senior living products. With a unique understanding of both traditional and alternative asset classes, BRE has acquired and is developing a significant portfolio of properties across the region.

 

Scott began his career at Engel Burman (EB) in 2001, where he served as President of Engel Burman Construction (EBC), overseeing a team of more than 90 employees and managing an aggregate construction value in excess of $1 billion at any given time. During his tenure at EBC, he designed and implemented a restructuring and expansion plan that tripled the company's business volume and broadened its operations into diverse sectors. His leadership had been instrumental in the development and construction of a property portfolio valued in excess of $3 billion.

 

Throughout his career, Scott has demonstrated expertise in all aspects of real estate development, from negotiating acquisitions, sales, and leases to structuring complex deals and securing financing for a wide range of property types. He has successfully worked with municipalities throughout the NY Metro region to obtain land-use approvals and entitlements, resulting in millions of square feet of developed real estate. His notable achievements include:

 

  • ​BRE and partners AJM, KABR and BTF Capital purchased and are currently redeveloping a 1.3 million square foot retail shopping mall on nearly 70 acres in Hicksville, Long Island.
  • BRE and strategic partners have acquired properties in downtown Mineola where they intend to build multiple residential projects including multi-family rentals and condominiums.
  • Repositioning, leasing, and financing Country Life Press, an office complex in Garden City, NY
  • Financing, entitlements, and expansion of a Federal Express regional distribution center in Holbrook, NY
  • Expanding The Bristal Assisted Living chain to New Jersey
  • Developing and securing entitlements for senior living communities across the region, including Long Island's first memory care community

Scott is a respected leader in the industry and an active contributor to his community. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Real Estate Institute at Stony Brook University College of Business and the LIPA/PSEG Community Advisory Board. He is a current board member for YPO Metro NY, a past honoree and current Board of Trustee's Vice Chair for the Long Island Children's Museum, and a past President and current Executive Board Member for the Long Island Real Estate Group.

 

Scott frequently shares his expertise as a speaker on industry panels, guest lectures at Hofstra Law School, and has been featured in media outlets for his market and industry knowledge. He is a recipient of the Long Island Business News' "40 under 40" award and their "Rising Star in Commercial Development" award. Scott received a Bachelor of Science in Business from the New York University Stern School of Business.
