Bio

Sam is Boardwalk’s co-founder, leader and visionary behind the company’s growth and success. As Chairman and CEO, Sam serves the Boardwalk Team of over 1,700 Associates across four provinces. During his more than 34-year career in real estate and executive management, Sam has fostered a strong corporate culture, that guides future growth and encourages the company to create extraordinary experiences for Boardwalk Residents, Associates and partners.

 

Under his leadership, Boardwalk was recognized as one of Western Canada’s 10 Most Admired Corporate Cultures in 2010. Since Sam was appointed Chairman and CEO of Boardwalk, its market capitalization has increased from its $200 thousand IPO in 1994 to $2.18 billion as of December 31, 2018. With over 33,000 rental units representing over 28 million net rentable square feet, Boardwalk has a total enterprise value of over $5 billion.

 

Sam is a Fellow of the Real Estate Institute (FRI) and a Certified Property Manager (CPM). Over the years he has received numerous awards, including the Top 40 Under 40 award, Western Canada’s Real Estate Entrepreneur of the Year award, University of Calgary Haskayne of Business “Distinguished Business Leader” award, Pinnacle award and Canadian Governor General award, in recognition of Queen Elizabeth’s 50th Anniversary Golden Jubilee Medal.

 

Passionate about community, he enjoys serving the less fortunate and is a proud director, volunteer and supporter of the Jesus Loves You Society - a local soup kitchen for families in need. He is also a past member of the Calgary Homeless Foundation and Resolve’s committee to end homelessness.

 

Sam is a born and raised Calgarian and a graduate of the University of Calgary, Alberta where he earned his Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering.
