Bio
Robert Tullis is Senior Vice President and the Director of Design at the GID Development Group. He is a registered architect with over 30 years of architecture and real estate experience. He has been involved in the design of a variety of residential, office, retail, entertainment, educational, medical research, civic, institutional, and mixed use projects. Mr. Tullis is responsible for establishing the design direction and objectives of GID Development Group projects and for collaborating with and directing the work of architecture, landscape, interiors, and engineering consultants. Throughout his career, Mr. Tullis has been involved in the design of projects throughout the U.S. which in aggregate total over 40 million square feet of enclosed space plus a millions of square feet of publicly accessible open space. At GID Development Group, Mr. Tullis is involved in more than 24 million square feet of development activity in a variety of luxury urban high-rise residential and mixed-use projects totaling $8 billion of development value and consisting of more than 11,000 residential units, 1 million square feet of retail, 1.2 million square feet of office, and 400 hotel rooms. Prior to joining GID, Mr. Tullis worked in key roles at several award-winning architectural offices. As V.P. at Elkus Manfredi Architects, New England’s largest firm, he was responsible for 14 million square feet of mixed use projects including The Grove at Farmer’s Market in Los Angeles CA, Americana at Brand in Glendale CA, and Belmar in Lakewood CO. Also while at Elkus Manfredi, he designed the One Franklin tower in Boston, retail venues for Foxwoods Resort and Disneyland, multi-family residential buildings in Cambridge MA, and office interiors for clients including John Hancock Signature Services and Novartis Pharmaceuticals. His Elkus-Manfredi institutional work includes the Brockton Trial Court for the State of Massachusetts, and his medical research work includes laboratories for the Broad Institute, Alkermes pharmaceuticals, Johns Hopkins Medical Center, and the lab-of-the-year winning Millennium Pharmaceuticals headquarters. At Ellenzweig Associates, Mr. Tullis served as project manager and designer on several educational and research projects including the Loyola (Chicago) Stritch School of Medicine, the University of New Hampshire’s Biological Sciences Center, laboratories at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and the award-winning Joslin Diabetes Center. At Koetter Kim Architects, an internationally known firm, Mr. Tullis participated as a senior designer on the Colby College Music and Art Center and the University Park at MIT mixed use development. Prior to joining Koetter Kim, he was a partner in the Boston firm of Grassi-Tullis Architects, where he produced over $25 million of condominium, office, and mixed use work including master planning and multi-family residential buildings in Key West Florida’s Truman Annex complex. Mr. Tullis holds a B.A. in Fine Arts and Architecture from Colgate University and an M.Arch. from the Harvard Graduate School of Design. He is licensed to practice architecture in Massachusetts and holds NCARB registration, is a LEED accredited professional, and is a member of the American Institute of Architects and Boston Society of Architects. Mr. Tullis is the co-chair of the BSA’s Placemaking Network, has developed and taught a college course on Placemaking, and often lectures on the subject. He is also a member of the Urban Land Institute and The Congress for New Urbanism.
