Bio

Rachel Johnson came to The NRP Group as an Asset Manager in 2010 and by 2012 she was promoted to Chief Information Officer. Johnson now leads all aspects of technology, including NRP Infrastructure & Operations, Business Solutions & Software Applications, and Property Technology.

Since Johnson’s arrival in 2010, NRP’s employee base has grown from 350 to nearly 800 people (128% growth), multifamily unit production has increased over 100% to 4,300+ per year and the managed portfolio has grown to over 20,000 units at a value of over $1.6B. The innovations spearheaded by Johnson’s team have been key contributors to NRP growth.

During Johnson’s tenure, The NRP Group has been named the 2020 NMHC #6 Top Multifamily Builder in the U.S. and #7 Top Multifamily Developer, and Affordable Housing Finance has named The NRP Group #4 Top Affordable Housing Developer and #12 Top Owner in the U.S. The NRP Group is a three-time recipient of the National Association of Builders Multifamily (NAHB) Pillars of the Industry award for national “Development Firm of the Year,” and has become the top multifamily developer in the U.S. that creates both affordable and market rate housing at national scale.

Johnson has led the IT organization through many transformational initiatives: virtualization of desktops and devices throughout the construction, property management and satellite office footprints; development of a robust hybrid on-premise and cloud-based data center network infrastructure; enterprise-wide implementation of voice-over-internet for the corporate offices and property portfolio (which has saved millions of dollars in telecom costs); and the complete digital transformation of the company in all areas of business intelligence, dashboards, task management, document management and project workflows.

Johnson is now taking the NRP technology platform to the next level through the expansion of cloud solutions and the strategic application of artificial intelligence, Internet of Things and other emerging technologies. Johnson is continually focused on integrating internal and external tools to create the most seamless cross-device cross-platform user experience across NRP business units, while protecting the entire NRP technology platform by greatly broadening NRP capabilities around cybersecurity.

Prior to joining The NRP Group, Johnson spent nine years at AmTrust Bank where she achieved positions of increasing responsibility leading to her role as Vice President of Operations for the Commercial Construction Real Estate Lending Division. Johnson began her career at Ernst & Young and then worked as a software consultant developing custom applications for the financial and accounting divisions of companies across several industry verticals.

Johnson serves on the Board of Zoning Appeals for the Village of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, a mayor-appointed committee charged with reviewing both commercial and residential zoning applications. In 2014, Crain’s Cleveland Business named Johnson CIO of the Year for mid-sized companies in Northeast Ohio. Johnson graduated from Miami University with a Bachelor of Science in accounting and a minor in management information systems, and now resides in Chagrin Falls with her husband and two children.
