Bio
Philip (“Flip”) Maritz is nearing the 30-year mark in the hotel and real estate business. During those years he has co-sponsored multiple investment funds (total assets of $7 billion at Broadreach Capital and Maritz, Wolff & Co.), chaired or co-chaired several owned hotel management companies (Rosewood, Fairmont, and Dolce Hotels and Resorts) and developed/redeveloped numerous iconic hotel and resort properties. Among the more notable properties Flip has either owned or managed are: the Carlyle NYC, the Fairmont San Francisco, Little Dix Bay Hotel, the Santa Barbara Biltmore, the Mansion on Turtle Creek Dallas, the Rosewood Sand Hill, the Aspen Institute/Aspen Meadows, Four Seasons hotels in Toronto, Houston, Austin and Nevis, The Lanesborough London, Park Hyatt Sydney, Hotel Seiyo Ginza Tokyo, Badrutt’s Palace St. Moritz, Inn of the Anasazi Santa Fe, Rosewood Las Ventanas, Jack Welch Leadership Center and many more.
Flip’s most recent focus has been on developing new hotel brands (The Ameswell) and properties as well as hotel technology platforms (Skipper Hospitality). He has also played a role as minority General Partner in owning the Oakland A’s Major League Baseball franchise with his partner Lew Wolff.
Prior to co-founding Maritz, Wolff & Co., Flip was active in real estate acquisition, finance and development with Morgan Stanley & Co. in New York and Spieker Properties in the San Francisco Bay area.
Flip serves as a director of Asbury Automotive Group (NYSE: ABG, a $10 billion auto retailer) and numerous private companies. Additionally, he serves as a trustee of several non-profit organizations including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York (where he chairs the Buildings Committee), the American University in Cairo (where he chairs the Facilities Committee), the Princeton University Art Museum, and the New York Landmarks Conservancy. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He previously served on the Management Board of the Stanford Business School and on Princeton’s Development Leadership Council, as well as the boards of the Saint Louis Art Museum and The Contemporary Art Museum in St. Louis, among many other non-profit organizations.
He received a BA from Princeton University and a MBA from Stanford University.
Flip resides with his wife Jenny in Vail, Colorado. They have three grown children.
