Phil Smith

Phillip K. Smith, Jr., is the President and Chief Operating Office of Sunrise Company. Mr. Smith is responsible for the Coachella Valley Division in the Palm Springs desert resort area of Southern California and currently leads the development of Toscana Country Club. He also serves as a member of the Company’s senior management team and provides direction on legal affairs, risk management, community development issues and other aspects of the business. Before joining Sunrise Company in 1980, Mr. Smith was a partner in the Los Angeles law firm of Greenberg, Glusker, Fields, Claman & Machtinger where he specialized in the legal aspects of real estate development and was a member of the Management Committee. Mr. Smith is a member of the Urban Land Institute and board member and president of the Desert Valleys Builders Association. He is a Trustee of the Family YMCA of the Desert, a Director of the Coachella Valley Economic Partnership, Indian Wells Town Hall and The Living Desert. He is a former board member of the Palm Valley School. Mr. Smith received a B.A. in International Relations from the University of California at Los Angeles and a J.D. from Stanford University School of Law.
