Bio

As a co-founder of Beckham Gumbin Ventures, Mr. Gumbin brings extensive experience in real estate investment and asset management to the BG-Ventures team. Throughout his career, Mr. Gumbin has contributed to the success of a number of prominent real estate private equity firms.

Prior to forming Beckham Gumbin Ventures, Mr. Gumbin spent the previous eleven years at GEM Realty Capital as a managing director and investment committee member for both GEM Realty Properties and GEM Realty Securities. During his tenure at GEM, the firm grew from $50 million to over $2.5 billion in assets under management, and consistently produced some of the highest returns in the real estate investment industry.

Prior to joining GEM, Mr. Gumbin was a managing director and investment committee member for JER Partners, where he was responsible for leading and managing the North American investment team (JER Fund 1). From mid 1992 through 1997, Mr. Gumbin founded and ran Continental Ventures Ltd., a real estate investment firm that specializes in value-added properties and distressed debt.

For the first ten years of his career, Mr. Gumbin was a partner in JMB Realty Corporation. He spent his first two years in Chicago and the remainder in Los Angeles, where, under his leadership, JMB became one of the largest property owners and developers in Southern California. Mr. Gumbin received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Arizona with a major in finance in 1980, and his Master's in Business Administration (MBA) from the Wharton School, at the University of Pennsylvania, in 1983 (at age 23), with a specialization in finance and real estate. Mr. Gumbin is an active member of the National Leadership Council of the University of Arizona Foundation, and is a member of the Mid Atlantic Regional Advisory Board for the University of Pennsylvania.
