Bio
Mike Birnbaum has more than 35 years of commercial real estate experience. For more than 15 years, he was a partner in the Trammell Crow Company, responsible for all real estate development, financing, management and acquisitions for San Antonio and South Texas. During that period, Mike built more than 3.6 million square feet of office, retail and industrial buildings and acquired more than 1.3 million square feet of commercial buildings with a combined value in excess of $300 million. Office building projects have included the development of the Bank of America building in downtown San Antonio, Colonnade Office Building, former Corporate Headquarters building for Ultramar Diamond Shamrock at the Colonnade and the Texas Neuro-Sciences Institute Building. After leaving the Trammell Crow Company, Mike became a partner in Cencor Realty Services and Executive Vice President of its affiliate company, The Weitzman Group, opening their offices in San Antonio in December 1991. With Cencor, Mike developed Ingram Festival Shopping Center (221,344 sf) at Loop 410 near Ingram Park Mall that includes a Best Buy, Marshall’s and a Barnes & Noble, Fiesta Trail Shopping Center (540,000 sf) at the southeast corner of IH-10 and DeZavala that includes an H.E.B., Target, Marshall’s, Office Max and Barnes & Noble, University Square Shopping Center (76,360 sf) at the southwest corner of IH-10 and DeZavala that includes Bassett Furniture Direct and Good Sports and Phase I at Culebra Market Shopping Center Phase I (130,000 sf) that includes an H.E.B. Mike also redeveloped Thousand Oaks Centre (162,864 sf) at the corner of Jones Maltsberger and Thousand Oaks to include H.E.B. and Bealls. In 2002, Mike started his own commercial real estate firm, Birnbaum Property Company, and while there has developed Encino Commons Market at the northwest corner of Evans Road and Encino Commons, Churchill Estates Crossing Shopping Center at the southwest corner of Huebner Road and Churchill Estate Boulevard, Stoneterra Shopping Center at the southeast quadrant of Stone Oak Parkway and Sonterra Boulevard, Encino Pointe Shopping Center at the southwest corner of Evans Road and Encino Rio, and The Shops at Culebra which includes, among others, Home Depot, etc. Mike earned his Bachelors of Business Administration and his Doctorate of Jurisprudence from the University of Texas at Austin. Mike is involved in numerous organizations and has served on many boards, including The Real Estate Council of San Antonio, the Texas Bar Association, the International Council of Shopping Centers, NCCJ Board Member and past Presiding Chair, Ecumenical Center for Religion and Health Board Member, Board of Governors Member of the Cancer Therapy & Research Center, South Texas Blood & Tissue Center Board Member, Agudas Achim Co-Chair Capital Campaign; Architectural Selection Committee; Building Committee; Board Member for several years and President for 2 years, past President of the San Antonio Chapter of the National Association of Industrial and Office Parks, and past Board Director of the San Antonio Chapter of the National Association of Industrial and Office Parks.
