Bio

Larry Wilson knows how to play his cards right. As an avid card player, he likes to win. “I like the challenge and strategy involved with card games. I play with friends and family. We can get pretty competitive.” Larry also likes the challenge and strategy involved in developing commercial buildings. He’s spent more than 30 years in the commercial real estate industry, tackling client challenges and strategizing solutions. The Southeast is an attractive region for corporate facilities. We’re here to help companies develop dynamic facilities that offer long-term quality of life for their employees. Currently, Larry serves as KDC’s Division President for the southeast. He joined the company in 2005 to build a presence in the region. He is responsible for strategic planning and administration of KDC’s development and investment activities in the southeast. One of the most challenging projects he’s worked on at KDC is the 2.2 million square foot development in Atlanta’s Perimeter Center, anchored by State Farm. “We’re developing adjacent to a transit center, we’re building tunnels under roads, and we’re building bridges over the roads,” he says. “It’s incredibly complex.” Larry started his commercial real estate career in Dallas, working for Cadillac Fairview while attending Southern Methodist University. The company offered him a unique opportunity—the ability to work on a 1.1-million-square-foot project for IBM in Atlanta. That project ended up changing the course of his life. “It’s very rare for a 21-year-old to be exposed to a 50-story office development for a blue-chip company,” Larry says. Once Larry got to Atlanta and realized the tremendous opportunity, he decided to stay. He transferred to Georgia State University and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Urban Studies while working full-time. He started out working on the construction side of things, and then switched over to retail leasing and ultimately development. He even worked on the sale of the IBM building. He worked for another real estate company before joining KDC’s Charlotte office. “During my career, I’ve worked on some very large and very recognizable projects, but I’m equally proud of some of the smaller projects I’ve worked on because they’ve been interesting and challenging,” Larry says. For example, Larry spearheaded one of KDC’s first projects for the Government Services Administration—the development of a new FBI building in Salt Lake City. Larry has spent his professional career developing in urban areas, but he loves wide open spaces and being in the outdoors. He enjoys hiking and fly fishing in the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Appalachia region, and his dream job would be a forest ranger. Larry and his wife, Caroline, have been married for over thirty years. They have two adult children and a daughter in law. They enjoy cooking together, and he is a master griller. Shrimp boils and roasting oysters on the grill are his signature dishes.
