John McGrath

John serves as EVP Strategy, Capital Allocation, and Co-Chief Investment Officer. Prior to joining AIR, John founded and served as President & Chief Executive Officer of McGrath Investments, a privately held investment company that manages multiple asset classes including real estate, venture capital, and credit. From 2005-2011, John served as a Senior Vice President at Aimco where he held various leadership roles, with increasing levels of responsibility, within the company’s investment management and transactions division. Additionally, he held the position of Chief Executive Officer of National Partnership Investments Corporation (NAPICO) - the affordable housing business he subsequently acquired, through a management buyout, from Aimco in 2011. John earned an M.B.A (Distinction) from the University of Oxford and a B.S. (Honors) from The Johns Hopkins University. John and his wife Kristal have been married for 26 years and have two adult children. When not working to grow AIR’s portfolio, John can typically be found with his family and training for triathlons, scuba diving, and collecting antiquarian books.
