John Forlines is Fannie Mae's Senior Vice President and Chief Risk Officer. Mr. Forlines is responsible for Enterprise Risk Management, which oversees the company's governance and strategy for global risk management. His team provides independent oversight and guidance for managing risk and ensuring compliance – including the development and implementation of risk management measures across the company. The team leads efforts to build and sustain a strong risk culture in which all employees act on their responsibility to manage strategic, market, credit, liquidity, compliance, operational, reputational, and information security – including cyber risk. Mr. Forlines chairs the Enterprise Risk Committee and is a member of the Management Committee, Fannie Mae's leadership team. Before assuming his current position in March 2018, Mr. Forlines was Fannie Mae's Senior Vice President and Deputy Chief Risk Officer. Reporting to the Executive Vice President and Chief Risk Officer, Mr. Forlines was responsible for managing aggregate credit, market, and liquidity risks – including setting corporate-level credit policies, limits, and delegations. He led oversight of risk management for the company's Single-Family and Multifamily businesses, Capital Markets group, and counterparty risks associated with these business areas. Before assuming the Deputy Chief Risk Officer role in December 2015, Mr. Forlines was Fannie Mae's Senior Vice President and Chief Audit Executive, with responsibility for all internal audit activities throughout the company – including internal controls and operational processes. Prior to that, he was Senior Vice President and Chief Credit Officer for Single-Family, with responsibility for credit policy, underwriting and eligibility standards, quality control, lender approval, and lender selling guide compliance. Earlier, Mr. Forlines served in several leadership positions in Single-Family. He started his Fannie Mae career in Internal Audit in 1987. Mr. Forlines is a certified public accountant and member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He is also a member of the Risk Management Association (RMA) and Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP). Mr. Forlines has a bachelor of science in business administration with a concentration in accounting from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a master of business administration in human resources management from the University of Dallas. He has also completed the Chief Risk Officer Certificate program at Carnegie Mellon University.
