Bio
Concurrent with founding GCP in December, 2019, Jay Klug served as Executive Vice President of Retail at JBG Smith, a publicly traded (NYSE) REIT based in Chevy Chase, MD. While at JBGS, Jay oversaw all retail investment activities at the public REIT and legacy private equity fund investments of The JBG Companies.
Jay has over 20 years of real estate experience with acquisitions, dispositions, development, financing, leasing and third-party joint ventures. Prior to joining The JBG Companies, now JBG Smith, Jay had a previous tenure with a JBG-affiliate, JBG Rosenfeld Retail (JBGR), where he served as a Principal. Prior to joining JBGR, Jay held positions in the Federal Government including the Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Senate Agriculture Committee. He is an active member of International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), a full member of Urban Land Institute (ULI) and an alumnus of the 2011-2012 Class of ULI Washington's Regional Land Use Leadership Institute. Mr. Klug is a founding Board Member of the Tysons Partnership and serves on the Board of DC Developing Families Center in NE, D.C. and the Real Estate Task force for the Sidwell Friends School.
Jay holds degrees in Chemistry and Environmental Science from Duke University and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
Jay grew up on a corn and soybean farm in Southeastern Iowa, that his family continues to own and operate (the farm has been in his family for over 175 years). He is married to Jamie Hechinger and together they have two children, ages 13 and 11. Jamie and Jay currently live in NW, Washington, D.C.
