Bio

James Gaffney is a Managing Director, Asset Management with Newmark's Multifamily Capital Markets Group in the firms Lower Gwynedd, Pennsylvania office. In his current role, James is responsible for managing various asset management teams including Reserve Administration, Payoffs, Satisfactions, Letters of Credit, Financial Analysis, Trigger Analysis and Loan Surveillance for a $70B portfolio encompassing 3,900 loans. In addition, James reviews and approves all BOV's for underperforming assets, performs loss estimates on balance sheet loans, and participates in monthly credit/portfolio risk meetings.

 

James came to Newmark after service as Vice President of Collateral Administration as Berkadia Commercial Mortgage, where he served from 1996 to his departure to Newmark in 2017. During James' tenure at Berkadia, he was responsible for managing a wide variety of servicing and asset management teams including offshore teams. These teams included Financial Statement Analysis, Trigger Analysis, Reserve Administration, Loan Surveillance, CMBS Asset Management, Advances, Payoffs, Taxes, UCC's and Satisfactions for a commercial servicing portfolio of over $200B, totaling over 20,000 loans. Additionally, James also has rating agency experience, working several years at Morningstar as Assistant Vice President within the Loan Surveillance team. James also is Newmark's Chief Servicing Officer (CSO) for Freddie Mac and the Chief Asset Manager (CAM) for Fannie Mae. He is also a Mortgage Bankers Association Future Leader.

 

Education

James holds a BSB in Financial Services from Penn State University.
