Gary Dean

Gary D. Dean is Executive Vice President – Real Estate Legal Affairs and Assistant Secretary at Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc. Since joining Alexandria in 2004, Mr. Dean has been responsible for legal issues related to real estate acquisitions, dispositions, leases, and operational matters. He also manages the company’s vendor contracting process and is a key legal advisor to the Real Estate Development department as well as a key member of the company’s COVID-19 Task Force. In addition, as FCPA and OFAC compliance officer, he oversees Alexandria’s compliance program and reviews and evaluates related matters within the company. Mr. Dean has over 20 years of commercial real estate and related experience. Prior to Alexandria, Mr. Dean practiced law at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP in its Los Angeles and Tokyo offices. While at Skadden, he represented several publicly traded REITs and other institutional clients with investments in hotel, retail, office, residential, and mixed-use projects. Mr. Dean earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, magna cum laude, and his Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, Los Angeles.
