Bio

Dave Barnhart brings a broad array of real estate experience and expertise to Barnhart Guess, which he has acquired in a career spanning over 30 years. He has been a managing partner, directing all phases of real estate, including; development, marketing, management, leasing and disposition of institutional grade properties throughout Atlanta and the Southeast United States. Mr. Barnhart began his development career in 1980 in Atlanta, specializing in grocery anchored centers. In 1985, Dave was a founder and managing partner of Isakson Barnhart, a privately owned development company whose partners went on to produce a development portfolio over 5 million square feet with a value exceeding $500 million. Initially at Isakson Barnhart, the developments were primarily power centers and accompanying freestanding retail. Mr. Barnhart has overseen all leasing for both small tenants and anchors as well including: Target, TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Linens N Things, The Gap, Best Buy, Bed Bath & Beyond, Kohls, Ross, Publix, Bi-Lo, Kroger, REI, Borders, Barnes & Noble, Costco, Babies R Us. Walgreen, Panera Bread, Jared Jewelers, Jason's Deli, Dress Barn, Longhorn Grill, Famous Footwear are among the shop tenants in their portfolio. He also was involved in site selection, financing, and all phases of development and management on a daily basis. Also during his tenure with Isakson Barnhart, Dave was involved with the development and marketing as part of the companies' entry into the senior living business. Along with partners Kevin Isakson and Andy Isakson, they opened Park Springs in 2003, which became a nationally recognized, award winning, residential/mixed use community for those over 62 years of age. Park Springs won an award in 2005 from the National Association of Homebuilders (NAHB) for the Best Large Continuous Care Retirement Community (CCRC) and Best Clubhouse design. The Clubhouse has three dining venues, branch bank, library, art studio, card rooms, workshop, business center and offices. Park Springs is a CCRC development of approximately 900,000 sq.ft. located on 54 acres adjacent to Stone Mountain State Park including 390 independent living units, a health center with 2 swimming pools, workout rooms with personal trainers and massage services, skilled nursing facility, dementia care and 28 assisted living suites. Their second senior project, Peachtree Hills Place, is a premier location in the Buckhead section of Atlanta which won a Gold Award from the NAHB in May of 2008 for large CCRC projects on the boards. It is currently in predevelopment and marketing of its 275 residential units. Mr. Barnhart began his commercial real estate career in 1973 as one of the original retail brokers in the Atlanta office of Coldwell Banker, now CBRE. Mr. Barnhart graduated from University of Florida in 1969 and then served in the US Army as a 1st Lieutenant, with a tour of duty as a Rotary Wing Aviator in the Republic of Vietnam. Dave has been a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers for over 20 years and has served as speaker in their seminars related to the retail industry. Since 1982, Dave has served various times as a member of the Endowment Trust for Southeastern Guide Dogs (SEGD), a non-profit organization who supplies guide dogs to the blind free of charge. He is currently serving as a member of the Board of Directors for SEGD as well as being a member of the Endowment Trustees. He and his wife Deborah, have two daughters attending the University of Georgia
