Daniel Doherty

Daniel J. Doherty III is a Principal of Eastern Real Estate, which he co-founded with his business partner Brian J. Kelly in 2000. Since their professional partnership began in 1991, Mr. Doherty’s and Mr. Kelly’s entrepreneurial approach and long-term industry relationships have enabled them to develop and implement creative solutions for a wide range of commercial real estate opportunities. Together with their longtime team of professionals, they have completed hundreds of transactions and developed over 100 projects encompassing 15+ million square feet valued in excess of $3 billion. In addition to his extensive real estate experience, Mr. Doherty is the Founder and Principal of Eastern Investment Company, which provides executive guidance and strategic capital to a diversified portfolio of growth stage companies. An active investor, Mr. Doherty serves on several public and private corporate boards of the Eastern Investment Company portfolio. Mr. Doherty is a strong advocate for education, personal health, and advancement of youth. In 2002, he established the Doherty Family Scholarship to help economically challenged students who exhibit exceptional leadership potential. This program, which has special meaning for Mr. Doherty given the personal circumstances of his youth, has provided dozens of students the opportunity to lift the trajectory of their lives through education. Mr. Doherty holds a Bachelor of Science – honoris causa from Tufts University and is Trustee Emeritus of the Tufts University Board of Trustees. Through his years of service as a Trustee, Dan served as Vice Chairman and as a long-standing member of the Executive Committee. He has chaired numerous committees and has provided strategic guidance at the request of the President. In recognition for his thoughtful leadership, the Alumni Association presented Mr. Doherty with the Distinguished Service Award. Dan's experience and insight has been recognized by the University of Virginia, where he now serves as Trustee of the College Foundation and a member of the Administration & Finance Committee, and Wake Forest University where he is an active contributor on the Parents Council. In addition to his support of higher education, Mr. Doherty is engaged in many charitable and civic organizations. He recently served as a board member of Tufts Medical Center, Marblehead YMCA, Nantucket Boys and Girls Club. Mr. Doherty is a supporter of Autism Speaks, Marblehead All-Sports and the Nantucket Cottage Hospital. Dan is a lifelong resident of the greater Boston area. He and his wife, Meredith, are actively engaged in family life and the educational pursuits of their three children. In addition, Dan enjoys cycling, golf, boating, and hiking.
