Clarke Starnes is chief risk officer at Truist Financial Corporation, the nation's premier financial services company serving approximately 12 million households.Starnes is a member of the executive management team and oversees Truist's Risk Management division.After completing Truist predecessor BB&T's Leadership Development Program in 1982, Starnes managed the company's Loan Officer Development Program and Credit Analyst department. He subsequently served as a business services manager, regional senior credit officer, regional loan administrator for corporate accounts and direct retail lending risk manager. He was named to the BB&T Executive Management team in December 2006 as the Specialized Lending Group manager. In September 2008, Starnes was named chief credit officer and in January 2009 as chief risk officer. In December 2019, he moved into his current position as chief risk officer of Truist Financial Corporation, created through the merger of equals between BB&T Corporation and SunTrust Banks, Inc.Starnes earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is also a graduate of the ABA Stonier Graduate School of Banking at the University of Delaware.He currently serves as director of the BB&T Center for Leadership Development at East Carolina University and previously served as a director of the Consumer Bankers Association and the Consumer Credit Counseling Services of Forsyth County in North Carolina.
